Valentina Plata / Vaiu

My practice centers around listening, tuning in, and relating to the environment. I create spatial soundscape compositions and intimate performances under the moniker Vaiu, that weave my voice with technology.

I am a Mexican/Colombian performer-composer and sound artist based in Montreal (Tiohtià:ke). I work with Voice, Time, and Technology not as instruments, but as collaborators in the creation of sonic landscapes that explore the music underneath an instant. My inspiration is born out of curiosity, tuning into the micro sounds, breaths, and the almost inaudible gestures of an environment. As I perform, compose, and improvise, I find wild sounds, hold them dearly for a moment and play with them before letting them roam free again.
